DR. NELSON CASTILLO, MD

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Nelson Castillo is a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive training from Emory University, Harvard University and the University of Pittsburgh.  Raised in East Cobb County, Dr. Castillo graduated Summa Cum Laude from Emory University, with a double major in Biology and Business Finance.

 

Staying at Emory to complete his medical degree, Dr. Castillo then did his internship in general surgery at Harvard University. He then completed his plastic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh, one of the most competitive and prestigious reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery programs in the nation. During his plastic surgery training, Dr. Castillo participated in all aspects of cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery, including extensive micro-surgical experiences with muscle-sparing breast reconstructions; all facets of hand surgery, including hand transplantations; body-contouring procedures; skin care and dermatology.  Dr. Castillo finished his training by completing a fellowship diagnosing and treating ailments of the hand and upper extremity in the Orthopedic Department of the University of Pittsburgh.

 

Dr. Castillo began practice at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, performing plastic surgery and teaching residents all facets of plastic surgery.  He also taught at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill medical school and served as the clerkship director for students interested in pursuing a career in plastic surgery.

 

Given his desire to return to Georgia to be closer to his family, Dr. Castillo returned to Atlanta and opened his private practice in 2015.  When not working, you can find Dr. Castillo at a gym, or running around Chastain Park.
